1. Search in incognito
Travel sites use consumer cookies to raise prices on flights/hotels/vacation packages which are popular among visitors. Websites may hike fares based on your search history.
2. Use Google flights flight monitor tool
This is an amazing tool which can be directly linked to your email. Once the price of a flight fluctuates you will automatically get an email regarding the price. Also book flights on Tuesday, fares are known to be cheaper.
3. Fly from Niagara Airport (IAG):
This is a great tip if you live close to Toronto or even Niagara Falls. This airport is located in Niagara Falls, Buffalo (approximately 1.5hr from Downtown Toronto) a 10-minute drive from the Rainbow Bridge Border crossing. There are only two airlines that fly out of this airport- Spirit & Allegiant. These airlines only fly to various cities located in the State of Florida. Earlier this month, I flew a one way out of IAG to Fort Lauderdale for $57! Check out spirit.com for some great sunny deals. You can also park your car at the IAG airport for $13 USD/Day.
Additionally, if you’re looking to fly to South/Central America I would suggest flying from Niagara Falls to Fort Lauderdale as this airport is the Spirit Airlines headquarters. Once in Fort Lauderdale you can find fares to many sunny destinations for half the price of flying out of YYZ. My flight to Panama from Fort Lauderdale this upcoming February was $200CAD.
Just note that Spirit keeps their fares low by charging you for additional costs such as larger baggage, seat selection, early check-in’s & more.
4. Subscribe to YYZ Deals:
This amazing blog is ran by Chris Myden, a Canadian based travel enthusiast. He continuously watches all travel websites and whenever a good deal appears, he posts it on his blog. Some of the deals are unreal. (And don’t worry they are legitimate). Just recently I purchased a flight to the Philippines for $660 tax included, using his tips.
5. Get a Travel Credit Card:
Getting a travel credit card is one of the best ways to earn FREE travel. The credit card which I own is the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card.
- 3TD points for every $1 you spend
- 9TD points when you book travel online through Expedia TD
Since registering for my Visa in September 2017, I’ve earned $650CAD in travel credits in 1.5 years. I recently used my points to purchase a flight which I found on YYZdeal.com to the Philippines. Using my points I only ended up paying $8.80 for the roundtrip flight. Crazy I know.
